19 Jan 11 Ontario Association of Children’s Rehabilitation Services and GoldCare Partner to Implement Electronic Client Information System for Children’s Services

WATERLOO, ONTARIO–(Marketwire – Jan. 18, 2011) - Members of the Ontario Association of Children’s Rehabilitation Services (OACRS), and GoldCare, market leaders in healthcare management software, are pleased to announce their partnership to implement leading edge technology for coordinating service planning and delivery and improving quality of care for approximately 37,000 children across Ontario. this partnership is part of a project funded by the Government of Ontario.

In April 2010, Minister of Children and Youth Services, Laurel Broten announced $2.5 million in one-time funding for the implementation of a modernized, family-focussed electronic client information system at 12 of Ontario’s Children’s Treatment Centres (CTCs). this clinical software will allow multi-disciplinary teams to conduct a team assessment, develop an integrated plan of care, share important information, view clinical notes and monitor each child and family’s progress. Children and families in the following areas of the province will benefit from this new system: Belleville, Brantford, Chatham, Kingston, Kitchener-Waterloo, London, Oshawa, Ottawa, Peterborough, St Catharines, Sarnia and Windsor.

Each Children’s Treatment Centre will have a common technology platform to manage every stage of the child’s care cycle. Information that was maintained separately in ‘silos’ will be consolidated and integrated, allowing key data to be shared seamlessly across the continuum of care, and within an interoperable and secure environment that protects client privacy and confidentiality. Care team members will be able to collaborate directly to coordinate care planning and service delivery efforts, and communicate outcomes. Decisions will be made jointly to develop an interdisciplinary single plan of care for the child that best allocates services and maximizes resource capacity.

This progressive health informatics model, one of the first of its kind in Ontario, will increase data accuracy and expediency, while eliminating administrative redundancies, resulting in expected reductions in wait times, quicker referrals to services, and improved quality of care. at a system level, OACRS will gain collective statistics from the participating CTCs for outcome measurement and program planning, driving best practices to improve outcomes and to build capacity to serve areas of greatest need.

“Our government is committed to meeting the special health needs of children and youth. despite today’s economic challenges, our capacity to improve the lives of so many children with disabilities in our community is now greatly enhanced as a result of this support,” says Leeanna Pendergast, MPP for Kitchener-Conestoga.

Linda Kenny, CEO of the Ontario Association of Children’s Rehabilitation Services states: “This partnership demonstrates how strategy and technology can come together creatively to realize collaborative and coordinated service planning and delivery for the benefit of children and families.”

“We’re extremely proud of the role GoldCare will play in establishing an electronic client record that will support the tireless efforts of healthcare professionals across the province and assist them in improving the lives of thousands of children,” says Grant Roberts, President of GoldCare (a division of Campana Systems Inc.). “We hope this day marks a milestone in the advancement of service planning and delivery for the community support services sector, and a step towards realizing a fully integrated and accessible client information management system for all of Ontario.”
