12 Feb 12 Human Resources Vs. “UN” Human Resources

Human Resources vs. “Un” Human Resources

The momentary insensitivity of an HR professional can set in motion a disastrous and a potentially harmful chain of events for any business today. Taking a closer look at what can happen when employees seek advice from their employer’s HR department and instead are treated as if they are a nuisance, can reveal that some “Un” human resource professionals have managed to settle in positions for which they have no calling.  The reality of what we see in the news these days concerning workplace violence and vengeance can lead one to wonder if the HR representatives are abiding by the core values and professional HR code of ethics that can strategically minimize some of the employer tragic stories.

Many companies of all sizes have HR departments comprised of ordinary people who serve in many different roles for the benefit of the organization’s growth and stability. The many facets of HR have become difficult for people to understand when it comes to functions and responsibilities. some see all HR people as recruiters, some as administrators, and yet some as strategic business partners and legal consultants available to help companies stay out of the court room.  The variations are customizable to the organizational structure and strategic measures. Nonetheless, people view HR as the one-stop shop for employment issues, concerns, investigations, etc. The bottom line is more and more people look to HR for advice and counsel. So, along with the responsibility to counsel the employer, the HR professionals need to maintain the “human” approach when dealing with employee concerns, complaints, and any other issues that may come their way. Showing the employee genuine care and concern should never be asking for too much.  In these days, it is the best approach from a “best practices” standpoint.

Ann Bogardus, states in her PHR/SPHR Study Guide book that by the middle of the twentieth century, the personnel function was part of almost every business and thus in 1948 the personnel practitioners developed into a profession. Today, this profession is called Human Resource Profession and plays key roles from administration to strategic partnerships. Hence, it behooves businesses to take a closer look at their HR departments to assess if their “un” human resources representatives can be either properly trained and coached to serve in their respective roles or replaced by professional “Human” Resources teams that can provide all aspects of HR while maintaining the “human” touch necessary for the overall stability and safety of their organizations.

In consideration of how all the pieces of the Human Resources fit together in the  realm of business and organizational growth, it becomes increasingly important to examine, assess, and determine  the best solutions at least on an annually. a coherent argument on the benefits of in-house vs. outsourcing of the HR department can draw interesting conclusions. one sided views without proper quantifications is a dangerous precedent and quantification without the “human” element will produce skewed and inconclusive results.

Taking a serious look from both angles will allow organizations to view and decide on the best possible solutions that can improve their bottom line. Understanding the importance of balancing the HR functions in conjunction with the core values and strategic company goals can make all the difference in the world. Start your journey today by reaching out the HR professionals that can offer your organization the tools needed for compliance with a winning edge on the real “Human” Resources approach.

07 Feb 12 Effective Communication: How to Promote Yourself at Work

It is not easy to promote yourself. You have made a positive contribution for the benefit of the company. But, your bosses were not around to witness the situation. Yet, you want them to know so that your efforts are recognized and they remember you for the next job promotion. If you make blatant loud claims, people may think of you as a show-off. Yet, some people do it so effortlessly and get recognized for the next job promotion.

How do you impress your bosses and co-workers so that they think well of you and recognize your contributions? Is it possible to do so without being ostracized? yes, you can.

Here are some practical suggestions:

Tell an interesting Story

Report like a journalist. Describe what happened rather than boasting loudly and focusing on you. Give details of how things happen from A to Z, highlighting the interesting angle. It doesn’t have to be a unique story about aliens falling from the sky. an interesting but ordinary daily encounter can be a good starting point for your story. because it involves you, people will remember what you contributed.

Add Some Light Humor

Interject some light humor. Nothing beats a funny story to draw attention. If it is funny, people will hear you out. A witty person is often seen as more intelligent. It doesn’t have to be a 5-Star joke that you memorize from some bestseller joke book. It can be a simple statement of how unexpectedly someone behaved or how different a situation turned out. Laughter can bring people together. Laughter also lightens the atmosphere.

Bad Vs good. before Vs After

Describe the situation before you solved the problem. how bad it was, and how good it is after you have resolved the matter. It gives magnitude towards the difference you have made to the situation. Compare the worse (negative) that it was and how well (positive) it turned out after you have intervened.

What Is Your Reason

Try not to make stand-alone statements. Support your statements. Add a reason why you say or do something. When people understand why you’re doing something, they will tend to be more acceptable to what you say.

Who else Agrees With You

Who else is in agreement with you? When you have support from other people, it will tone down people’s (your listeners) inherent defensive nature to critically evaluate your statements. People now are not dealing with you alone. they are dealing with you and a few other people who happen to share the same opinion. With strong support, your statements will go a long way.

Following the tendering for a revised Young Carers’ Service, it has now been confirmed that the contract has been awarded to Action for Children.

The tender process involved an evaluation panel including commissioning representatives from the PCT, Adult Care and Support and Children, Schools and Families (Cornwall Council).

The presentation phase of the tender also involved young carers who devised their own questions for providers following a presentation on the service they were proposing.

A joint transaction plan for the service and staff will be developed between the incumbent provider (CRCC) and the incoming provider (Action for Cornwall) with the support of the commissioners within CSF to ensure that service users experience a smooth transition to the new service. this service will commence on 1st April 2012.

The new provider currently provides similar services in 37 areas of the country and the council hope they will bring with them experiences and added value that will facilitate the development of this service in Cornwall, building on the excellent work already undertaken by the current provider.

The existing Young Carers project empowers and advocates individual young carers between the ages of 4 and 18 years to sustain their caring role by informing, helping, and arranging time out and listening to them. The project also provides a benefit to the young people of Cornwall by ensuring that their voice is heard.

This project has been running since 1996 and helps approximately 250 individuals each year.

14 Jan 12 Car Bumpers – Understanding the Various Options Available

Car bumpers have a very important role to play in making your car safe and comfortable to drive. not only do they protect your vehicle in the event of a head-on collision, but they also help to improve the aerodynamics of your vehicle, thereby giving you better mileage. The other benefit of having good bumpers is that they protect people who might get hit by your car, albeit only slightly. you will need to replace your old bumpers if they crack or fall off because of an accident. you might also want to buy new ones that look better than the old ones in order to customize your vehicle to give it a better appearance.

There are many different types of bumpers you could select from and this makes it possible for you to choose one that suits your needs the best. When you set out to buy car bumpers, you should first consider the different materials that they are usually made of. Most cars have a bumper made of reinforced thermoplastic material because it is relatively cheap while being very durable. If you are willing to spend more money on your car then you can consider ones made of carbon fibre. this material is super light and very strong and will take a huge amount of punishment when compared to plastic ones.

Older cars tended to be made with steel bumpers. they are heavy and prone to denting very easily. they are therefore the least preferred option unless you drive a vintage car that will not look nice with ones made of plastic or carbon fibre.

There are many options for styles of car bumpers. you should ideally buy one that conforms to the original design of your vehicle. they are easily available because there are many companies that manufacture and sell them, there being immense demand for replacement parts. you can buy special ones in case you have special needs for your car, for example if you need to do a lot of towing with your truck or car. If you drive a pickup truck or a SUV, for instance, you could buy step bumpers. If yours is a custom compact truck you are most likely to require Roll Pan bumpers. do a careful study of the different options available so that you can choose the best possible spare parts including car bumpers for your old or damaged vehicle.
