There are two things in this world that I do well. The first is baking a mean Shepherd's Pie and the second is soliciting sponsorships for special events. I know that given the state of the economy all you grass roots skate event organizers out there might appreciate a heads up on a few food and beverage related companies that will consider sponsorship requests. Therefore, I have rounded up a some opportunities that you may want to consider applying for. Here's your short list of potential sponsors:
Emergen-C
Looking for a vitamin drink mix company to help sponsor your skate event? Check out Emergen-C. You'll need to send your online request in at least two months in advance of your skate event's kick off date. Personally, I'd suggest that you allow more time than that to compensate for any potential delays or declines. If you're accepted, you'll get gratis product samples and vitamin drink swag based on your event size and how much promotion the company will receive in return. Sufficient to say, the more you promote the company at your skate event, the better chance you have of receiving a volume of supplies.
Chick-Fil-A
Who doesn't love chicken, except vegetarians? Chick-Fil-A will entertain skate event sponsorships on a local level, so if you have one in your vicinity, why not go for it? You'll need to download a sponsorship form first from the company's website. The form is pretty self explanatory. Just be sure to get it to the company at least six weeks in advance of your event. While you are at it, you may also want to solicit sponsorships from the fast food restaurants in your area. some requests must be done through the restaurant's corporate headquarters and others may be done through the local restaurateur. I've had previous success with getting event sponsorships from Sonic, McDonalds, Burger King and Dairy Queen. The donations have ranged from food products to paper products like napkins, straws and take out containers.
Jacksons and Publix Grocery Stores
Grocery stores are also great businesses to solicit for skate event sponsorships. If you live in Idaho, Washington, Nevada or Oregon, you may want to request an event sponsorship from Jacksons providing that one is in your neighborhood. Jacksons has an online sponsorship form that you can fill out. You'll have to wait at least a month for a response though, so be sure to plan accordingly. over the years I have had success in getting Shop Rite, Harvey's and Publix to sponsor special events through product donations and gift cards. Publix even offers grants to 501 C (3) organizations whose projects are in line with the company's core values. You may apply for one of those via snail mail. Additional information on how to do so is available on the company's website.
My children are skaters and I have a history of following the sport. in addition, I am a former special events planner.
